The “We Should Hook Up Sometime” Olive The People Storytelling Event Pt. 2

July 8th 2014

Story originally written and experienced: May 21st 2014

The only thing more fun than doing it once.

Was doing it twice.

But only because.

It became addicting. And it became fun.

Can't stop. Wont stop.

Can’t stop. Wont stop.

Because after hosting my first story-telling event in New York City. All I really wanted to do—was do it again. To make it bigger. And better. Because I promised that I would.

So I recruited, wrote and rallied for another one.  And it went a little something like this:

Some people backed out.

bye gif

But others happened backed right in.

I have arrived.

Scheduling rehearsals was a complete nightmare.

But the outcome was quite the dream.

I wasn’t sure who would come.

Just waiting it out.

Just waiting it out.

But in the end.

 The best people did.

Hey thanks.

Hey thanks.

My best friend flew hundreds of miles to open the show and tell this story:

And a re-enactment of a real-life prison letter was explained, performed and perfected:

I recruited a man I had never met before the event. Crossed my fingers he would show up. And lo and behold. He did. With a story. About how his parents. Were swingers. And exactly how he found out:

Wrote a script of dialogue of the internal scandal that goes on through a guy and girls head through a hook up:

Listened to a memoir from my talented friend Megan who gave a brief rundown about her temporary run-in with junior prostitution:

Closed the show with a stand up comedian named Jim Mendrinos who volunteered to perform last minute. And absolutely killed it.

And finally, told some stories of my own:

Because the thing is.

I really did want to hook up.

That idea.

Between the pen    and the     paper.

The real person      and      the digital person.

The       writer     and       the reader.

And as it turns out.

It absolutely. 100%. Was the best hook up I’ve ever had.

To everyone who came to the show. Thought about the show. Sent good vibes or even stopped by to read this post. Thank you. So much. The reason you read at all? Is the reason I write at all. Hope to see you at the next one. It’s already in the works (:

A huge thank you to my storytellers: Penny Erikson, Charlie, Joe, Nicole Detamble, Andy, Megan, Nick and Jim. And extra shout out to JD & Neil for stepping in last minute to film. You all have one-of-a-kind talent and make me a better person every day.

And as for the rest of you badasses.

Questions? Comments? Tacos? Just email and I’d be happy to chat about future participation, access to full footage or even just to chat.

Stay awesome and never stop dreaming.

I know I won’t.

P.S. If you want to see behind the scenes photos of the event. Check this shit out.
