“11 Ways To Cure A Hangover” The Olive The People/All Is Well Collaboration

January 31st 2016

I have a dream.

He gets me.

^ What he said.

That ONE DAY.

I can drink more than necessary WHENEVER I WANT, and suffer little-to-no consequences for it.

(I’m talking to YOU hangovers)

Thanks a bundle for this.

^ Thanks a bundle for this.

It’s a dream I’ve felt so passionate about, I told my friend (and health coach), Annie O’Connell.

Someone who I knew would understand exactly what I meant.

Mostly because.

When we met 7 years ago in Europe.

We did a lot of things like:

Dance on the streets of Spain after one too few:

Yes that's a floral tube top and a denim skirt.

Yes, that’s a floral tube top and a denim skirt.

Visit the Guiness factory and completely keep our cool:

Nothing to see here.

Nothing to see here.

And scream karaoke circa 4 AM at foreign casinos to a group of Europeans who just didn’t care:

Proof.

And the crowd went wild!

She understood the fun..followed by the struggle. Which is why I confided in her:

“Annie, all I want to do is wake up after a night of ridiculousness and be hella happy to be alive, and ask my friends energetic and useful questions like:

who let the dogs on

All I want.

“I can help you.”

“Yeah?”

“In 11 different ways.”

11 Ways To Cure A Hangover

True, drinking alcohol isn’t exactly the best way to reach your health goals. BUT, we’re social people. And we like to have a damn good time with people we damn like. And sometimes, the occasion calls for a drink…or three:

As it goes.

As it goes.

A quick note from Annie:

Hangovers are something I do not handle well. Sometimes they’re so bad, I get knocked out for days at a time. Which is why a few months ago, I channeled my health-coach ways and was bound and determined to find the best holistic hangover remedies.

I’ve done a lot of research on this topic:

What alcohol does to your body

How to help it recover from that damage

Not to mention, have lived a life full of travel, holidays, and weddings to give me plenty of opportunities to experiment on myself.

So here’s what I’ve come up with.

And I’m excited to share them with you (along with Olive The People) so we can all kick these hangover for good.

1. Before you go to bed: Drink 2 cups of water

This will save you.

Greasy snacks seem like the savior at the time, but as your body is desperately trying to recover from the intense amount of debauchery that just went down, onion rings and mozz sticks (or burritos if you’re in SoCal) will only set recovery mode >> wayyyy back.

Hydrate, baby!

And if you can’t resist the anti-recovery munchies, put yourself to sleep. Because:

It’ll take about .4 seconds anyway.

Man down.

Man down.

2. First thing in the morning: Lemonize

Did you know lemon juice is an easy-peasy (lemon squeezy) way to flush out unwanted toxins?

Sprinkle some of this goodness into a mug of warm water, sip away and feel amazing.

3. Pop pills

Stop.

We mean the good kind.

Like: B Vitamin Complex, Vitamin C, Magnesium (Annie recommends Natural Calm) and if it’s sunny outside, Vitamin D. Why? Because alcohol is a diuretic (a.k.a. frequent bathroom visits).

Which means…it depletes the body of vitamins realllllyy quick. So adding them back in the morning after?

Is good news bears.

4. Put a few drops of peppermint oil on the back of your neck

It’s an instant remedy to get rid of that painfully lingering headache.

5. Treat your feet

This will surprise you.

Spray Thieves (an essential oil blend) on the bottom of your feet and put socks on.

Quick explanation from Annie:

One morning I wasn’t feeling so hot so my mom handed me a bottle of Thieves and said, “here, spray this on your feet and put socks on”. I looked at her funny and quite honestly didn’t believe her, but I was in no position to argue. I was willing to try anything to kick my hangover that day. And you know what? Thirty minutes later, I was feeling much better. If you want to know more click the link. If you don’t care to know more, and just want to trust me like I trusted my mom, feel free to thank me later.

6. Detox BEFORE Retox

If you’re planning on a second round of drinking, remember this one rule: hair of the dog may help you in the moment, but not in the long run. Drink water and good food in between. First meal of the day recommendation? Two eggs and an avocado.

7. Feel the beet

Fun fact: the beet is the key ingredient to reviving your liver.

Try Detox Beet Juice. You (and your liver) won’t regret it.

8. Electrolyte mania
Get some electrolytes in your body ASAP: eat a banana or drink some coconut water. What about Gatorade, you ask? Take caution, they’re not at all natural and usually loaded with sugar.
Surprise.

Surprise.

9. Sweat it out
Find a sauna, go to the beach or, my personal favorite, go to a hot yoga class.
If not, there’s always this:

10. Plum benefits
Eat two umeboshi plums. They’re as foreign as they sound and their taste is very off-the-wall, BUT for what you’re reading this for? They’ll do the trick. Stop by your local Asian market for some of this serious healing power.

11. Nap
A job well done.
